Every year in mid-September, B.Sc. students at the K.N.Toosi University of Technology, take part in an interesting event. Undergraduate students show up with their talents in the shape of a project which is related to their field of studies. In another word, they use all their knowledge and creativity in order to build a new gadget. With having a glimpse at the current condition of the world and the effects of COVID-19 on the educational system, this competition appeared to be more important and also challenging this year. The organizer’s committee decided to hold the competition on online platforms to make sure that the Health Protocols would be taken into consideration completely. Due to this reason, the Aparat platform was chosen for indicating the projects. Each group of students made a video of their own project and it was uploaded to the official channel of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty on Aparat. What makes this event more exciting is voting and choosing the winners. Based on this virtual exhibition, the more popular a video is, the greater chance it has to win.

Electrical and Computer Engineering students have attended this event acts as the previous years. There are 16 groups of undergraduate students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty that are competing with each other. The main categories of this event are Electronics, Control, Power, Telecommunications, Softwares, and Hardware and each project has been selected carefully by the committee.

In this report we are looking forward to knowing about each group and their projects more precisely:

    • Electronics

Design and implementation of a smart panel:

In this project, a smart panel used in air conditioners has been designed and implemented. Furthermore, it’s developed by adding a touchpad and it can be controlled with remote control. This product is capable of being manufactured and sold in the market.

Design and implementation of the DC plasma system for cleaning the surface of the semiconductors such as wafers:

Semiconductors are the basis of Electronics and Silicone is one of the most significant substances undoubtedly. The main issue in the industry is to reduce the amount of impurity and pollution as much as possible. Therefore, the system designed by this group is truly able to clean the sample with the least amount of impurity and pollution which is highly essential for the industry.

    • Power

DC to DC converter for charging batteries via renewable energy sources:

The main goal of this project is focused on the implementation of a DC to DC converter, not only the design but also the production of the PCB of the converter and inductors have been taken into action.

    • Computer

Design and implementation of displaying and processing 3D medical images using I-Python:

As a matter of fact, medical equipment has been considered as one of the highly vital parts of the modern health system. In fact, without having access to appropriate medical equipment, diagnosis, and therapy will face many obstacles. In this project, a desktop software with GUI and Console interface has been illustrated which can be used for displaying and also simulating medical images.

Enhancing the performance of 2D football simulator using Reinforcement learning algorithm:

Needless to say that 2D simulation of football matches has been assumed as one of the oldest fields at International RoboCup League Competitions. Consequently, suggesting novel and ingenious ways in this field is obviously crucial. Enhancement in the decision-making algorithm for a single player can improve the whole performance of a team and this is what has been accurately carried out in this project.

Android application for submitting an order using Web services:

In this project, the establishment of a simple and practical environment in order to make a better connection between employees and employers has been taken into consideration. By using smartphones along with Laravel Web services on the internet, this achievement has been attained.

Design and implementation of the website and Android application of apartment management using Web services:

It can be seen from this project that the major priority is developing a simple and practical Android application and net core Web services on the internet for managing an apartment more effectively. Thus, this platform is useful for the apartment owners in towns, suburbs, and cities in many ways such as checking the bills and managing the payments, being informed of the latest news nearby, and also taking part in polls of their own neighborhood.

Fragmentation of road lines for auto driver vehicles using fragmentation neural networks:

Formerly, the common way of detecting road lines was using image processing algorithms that weren’t an efficient way in practice. Due to this reason, the fragmentation neural network has been utilized in order to detect and fragment the road lines. The method leads to enhanced and more detailed results. Nevertheless, the processing time has increased significantly compared with classic designs.

    • Control

Conversion of IEC 61131 ST program to C# for using in microcontrollers:

In this project, IEC 61131 standard has been studied completely and a platform for transforming structured text to C language has been established successfully. Hence, using an Arduino microcontroller instead of PLC will be available which is truly beneficial in many ways.

Some other projects related to this field of studying are as the following:

Design and implementation of 4-channel vital sound recorder
Implementation of fire alarm system for home and factory
Smart system of liquid surface measurement using pressure
Depth estimator system that can measure depth by means of an image.

    • Telecommunications

Implementation of a gyroscopic sensor using ARM microcontroller for detecting the spinning directions:

The main goal of this project is the implementation of a PID controller for sensing acceleration and gyroscopic applications. The project is consists of an ARM microcontroller of NXP company and also two servo motors. There is also an MPU6050 module used as a sensor.

Some other projects related to this field of studying are as the following:

Design, simulation, and manufacture of a 1-watt oscillator in GSM band
Modeling and measuring the EMC characteristics of mobile systems
Measurements of radiation algorithm of an antenna using a broadband electric field probe.
