The Faculty of Geomatics at K. N. Toosi University of Technology, Iran and the Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente (UT), The Netherlands are proudly offering a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (Specialization/domain: Geoinformatics). The program has a double degree modality. The argumentation for this modality is that students could take advantage of both qualifications. Students who want to work in Iran in the field of Geomatics, the degree of K. N. Toosi University helps them be employed in the related companies and organizations. On the other hand, this double degree will be of great benefit to students who want to continue their higher education at an international university or work on the international market.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Master’s programme in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation is a two-year Master’s programme, with both years divided into four quartiles of ten weeks each. The quartiles 1 to 4 (year 1) and also 7 and 8 (second semester of year 2) will be held in Iran and ITC faculty of Twente will be the host for the quartiles 5 and 6. The study load per quarter is 15 credits (EC). The total study load for the programme adds up to 120 credits, equalling 32 units based on the educational regulations of K. N. Toosi University of Technology.

The first year

The first quartile is dedicated to learning the common basis of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation. This ‘core’ part of the programme (14 EC, equivalent to 6 units) consists of three separate yet connected courses: • Geo-Information Science and Modelling • Earth Observation • Data Integration: Principles, Approaches and User Perspectives In addition, you will be acquiring important academic skills throughout the first year (total 4 EC, equivalent to 2 units).
Quartile 2 in the first year is dedicated to two courses in your chosen field of specialization, Geoinformatics, which are Acquisition and Exploration of Geospatial Data (7 EC, equivalent to 3 units) and Scientific Geocomputing (7 EC, equivalent to 3 units).
Quartile 3 in the first year is dedicated to a course in your chosen field of specialization, Geoinformatics, which is Extraction, Analysis and Dissemination of Geospatial Information (7 EC, equivalent to 3 units) and a common course on how geo-information science and earth observation address global challenges (7 EC, equivalent to 2 units).
Quartile 4 in the first year is dedicated to two courses in your chosen field of specialization, Geoinformatics, which are Image Analysis (7 EC, equivalent to 2 units) and Integrated Geospatial Workflows (7 EC, equivalent to 2 units).

The second year

The fifth quartile that will held by and at ITC, is dedicated to proposing the Master’s research (5 EC) and, moreover, some elective courses as parts of the individual study programme (10 EC).
The 6th quartile will be continued at ITC and includes working on MSc Research (10 EC) and one more elective course as another part of the individual study programme (5 EC).
Working on MSc Research continues at KNTU (30 EC).
The programme will be finalized by thesis submission and Defence at KNTU.
